Rockin Naturals You May Not Know But Should: Rahel

Introduction
My name is Rahel, but I am known as DJ Empress RAH behind the turntables. =) I am a 26 year old Atlanta-based Open Format DJ, born a first generation Jamaican-Guyanese American, from Oakland, California. (confusing, I know, lol) I have been natural for 6 years, and have been growing my locs for over 2 years.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
I remember being a sophomore at the University of Miami, and watching this BEAUTIFUL black women with locs down her back walk into the classroom, and introduce herself as Dr. Patti Rose. I was awed, in love, and inspired, of how she commanded the room with her presence. She was the one to teach me to love myself for who I am, while still being a powerful black woman. I Transitioned AND BC’d, shortly after meeting her and patience became my best friend (and worst enemy lol)

Fave go to hairstyle.
Braid out! Despite what people think, Locs are EXTREMELY versatile.
If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
Her name is Amina! Queen Amina was one of the great queens of Nigeria and when her father died, she succeeded him and became the first and the last queen during her time. Wherever she conquered, she used to order people to build a wall around the town or city, so people still maintain what is now known as “the walls of Amina”. To me that means, STRENGTH and ENDURANCE.
Have you ever tried hair shadowing?
No, but I’m interested!
If you hair is colored what do you use to do so?
Henna. And not the store bought Henna, actual henna from India, its the only type that actually stays in my hair the way it does.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Absolutely life changing.
Any advice to the natural newbies?
Be patient! Have fun! Step out of your comfort zone, and get ready to fall in love with yourself.
What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair?
“You look like a lion.”
If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?
@chescaleigh. She used her beauty and humor to build a platform that not only inspires millions but also provokes much needed dialogue in our community.
Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because I am a QUEEN, and every queen deserves to wear a CROWN. =)
