Rockin Naturals You May Not Know But Should: Premiere
My name is Premiere Sharp and I am 20 years old. I am originally from Columbus, Ohio but I currently reside in Nashville, Tennessee. Right now I am working towards getting my BA in audio engineering. I produce original music for local underground artist and I am a singer song writer myself. When I am not producing music I am teaching children as young as 4 months to 5 years old at a children’s facility. I’ve been natural my entire life but in the past couple years I’ve really been focused on keeping my natural hair healthy.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
I’ve pretty much been natural my entire life but I never really embraced it before like I do now. When I was younger I always got picked on for having hair that was I guess considered “different”. I would always try to straighten my hair from time to time thinking that I had to since it was considered “normal”. To be completely honest my growth in confidence is what inspired me to stay natural. I had to learn to be ok with how God made me and I must say I’m pretty freaking awesome!
What are your current hair goals?
My ultimate hair goal is to maintain a healthy mane and keep away from heat damage. Yes, I would love to have long curly locks but if you have shrinkage like me you know that would take years.
Top 3 products and prices.
Any Organix hair products $5-6
Jamaican Black Castor Oil $5
Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil $5
Is there a product you have used that you would NEVER use again? Why?
One product I would never ever use again is Garnier Fructis!! Their shampoos and conditioners will dry your hair out so bad. Over time your curls will look so lifeless and weak.
Do you have a favorite go to hairstyle?
I’d have to say my favorite go to hairstyle would have to be pineappling. It’s super cute, quick and easy!
How do you protect you hair at night?
I always make sure I oil/massage my hair every night with either olive oil or Jamaican castroil then I pineapple it with a very loose hair tie or scarf.
Do you have a name for your hair or If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
If I had to give my hair a name it would probably be cotton candy. My hair is so soft and fluffy like cotton candy especially when I comb out all of mu curls out into a fro.
If your hair is colored what do you use to do so?
Anytime I want to add color I either use henna or makeup(hair shadowing). I never use chemical dyes.
My advice to the natural newbies is to simply just be patient. It’s ok to have short curly hair. Do not feel like you are any less attractive if your curls don’t drop down to your waist. Lastly, learn to embrace every last part of yourself through the process!
What is your favorite compliment you have ever been given on your hair?
I think my favorite compliments are from people who are transitioning asking about what products I use and whenever people compliment me on the colors I put in my hair.
If you could tell your younger self NOW something about your natural hair THEN what would that be?
I think I would definitely tell my younger self to throw the flat iron AWAY! I would tell my younger self to be ok with my curls.
Do you have a favorite YouTube Vlogger?
My favorite YouTube Vlogger would have to be Alyssa Forever. Her curl pattern is very similar to mine and I love that how she shows the realness of being natural. She’s shown everything that she’s ever been through with her hair including her trial and errors which is something that I’m sure we all can appreciate. Plus, she’s help me with trying new hairstyles from myself that I had no idea I could try. Her page is awesome.
