Rockin Naturals You May Not Know But Should: Natalie

Introduction

My names Natalie and I’m a college student from NY. My healthy hair journey started when I was relaxed about 3 years ago after suffering from heat damage and excessive styling. My hair was thin and broken off from relying on stylists and not doing anything to take care of it. Since then I’ve gone from relaxed to texlaxed and now to transitioning. I’m about 10 months post and I couldn’t be happier with this journey!

What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?

A few of my friends are natural and I loved how thick and healthy their hair was. After going most of the spring/summer without a relaxer and falling in love with my curl pattern I decided to transition. Naptural85 (youtube and IG) was also a HUGE inspiration because she really taught me how to work with my natural texture.

Anything with perm rods! Currently I’ve been having some good luck with twist and curls (with small perm rods) and I love that you can wear it so many different ways!

If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?

The first name that always comes to mind is Zoey and I cant really explain it lol! It just kind of fits her ya know (:

Have you ever tried hair shadowing?

I’ve only tried hair shadowing with Maybelline color tattoo purple eye shadow and it came out great! The only thing was that I wished I applied it before setting my hair on flexi rods so that it didn’t weight down my curls when I smoothed it on. Other than that, I loved the results! It lasted until my next washday and it didn’t leave residue on anything.

If you hair is colored what do you use to do so?

I usually use boxed hair colors from Revlon or whichever one is on sale and has the reddish brown color I always go for. I’m not really picky because I only do it like 3 or 4 times a year on my roots just to get the reddish tint I love!

Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.

Embracing, Loving, Growing

Any advice to the natural newbies?

Hmm I’d have to say be consistent, detangle patiently (finger detangle if possible), try to minimize heat use and remember the best part about a journey is being able to look back and see how far you’ve come!

If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?

I would have to pick Naptural85 because she has so many great informative tutorials and a great personality. Her videos taught me a lot about finger detangling and perm rod sets and now I do them all of the time!
