Rockin Naturals You May Not Know But Should: Montrice

Hey! My name is Montrice Wall, I am 27 and I live in Charlotte, NC. I am a certified chiropractic assistant and I attend The University of North Carolina at Charlotte getting my undergraduate degree in Social Work.  I have been natural for 2 years and they have been the most exciting 2 years of my life.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
One of my best friends was a huge inspiration in starting my natural journey. She provided me with a lot of advice and encouragement.  My hair stop growing past a certain length while relaxed so I decided to transition back to my natural hair. I transitioned for 8 months then big chopped.
What are your current hair goals?
My hair goal is to grow my hair as healthy as possible. With patience and consistency I know my hair will grow.
Top 3 products and prices.
I have so many favorite products right now 3 is so hard to choose!
Shea Moisture JBCO Leave in conditioner $10.99/Cantu Leave in conditioner $5
Organix Argan Oil $7
Olive Oil Ecostyler $4
Is there a product you have used that you would NEVER use again? Why?
My hair literally loves every product I have tried which is a lot. The Crème of Nature oil moisturizer did not work for my hair. It made my hair extremely dry and flaked like crazy!
Do you have a favorite go to hairstyle?
My favorite go to hair style is banding.  This method is simple, easy and a perfect style without applying harsh heat to my hair.
How do you protect you hair at night?
I protect my edges with my satin scarf and then put my satin bonnet on.
Do you have a name for your hair or if you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
I don’t have a name for my hair, if I had to give my hair a name it would be Cleo lol.
If your hair is colored what do you use to do so?
My hair is colored well actually grown out now and only at the tips of my hair. When majority of my hair was colored I was really strict on deep conditioning and pre pooing.  Moisture is key for color and being a lazy natural is not an option. Color can make the hair very weak and not treated properly can cause major breakage.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Loving my mane
Any advice to the natural newbies?
Patience, Patience, and more Patience I once was the girl who just big chopped and unsure of what to do and how to care for my hair. You tube was soooo helpful in figuring out styles and what to do for caring for my hair. I researched like crazy I googled terms I didn’t know and I tried different products to see how my hair reacted.  Research and ask questions social media/youtube is a great guide for newbies. Dig in and have fun with your hair! Love every stage because your hair will grow fast!
What is your favorite compliment you have ever been given on your hair?
The most common complement is “I love your hair! What products do you use?”
If you could tell your younger self NOW something about your natural hair THEN what would that be?
To not tell my mother to relax my hair
