Rockin Naturals You May Not Know But Should: Kiwi
10 years relaxer-free!
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
I went natural in 2005 after just realizing my hair continued to break off repetitively.I was tired of not retaining length, every time I went to the salon they always had to do a trim and my hair wasn’t growing. I used to have long beautiful hair until a stylist got scissor happy, and I realized my hair wasnt growing back to my long length. I linked it to the relaxer and after my last touch up I didnt want to put chemicals on my scalp. I also read that the relaxer traveled through the bloodstream so that permanently turned me off. I had an interesting transition process because there was not a lot of info, no Youtube, no “natural” hair products no the market so I wore wigs and then started to go to Domincans to straighten my hair for 6+ years. So my transition process was actually straightening my hair…didnt want to see my texture.
What are your current hair goals?
To grow it longer and thick as I can. I am known for my thick and wild hair and I want it really just grow and grow. I don’t have a length check goal…it can grow to my butt for all I care lol!

Is there a product you have used that you would NEVER use again? Why?
Self explanatory. No relaxers/lye ever again. NEVER EVER…I have a fear somehow a brand will try to bring relaxers back in style…I wont use it again I promise.
Do you have a favorite go to hairstyle?
Wash & Go Queen
How do you protect you hair at night?
Braid it up or Pineappling with a scarf! I also sleep on satin pillows.
Do you have a name for your hair or If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
I never thought of a name. Let me give her a name….Peaches!
If your hair is colored what do you use to do so?
It is at the ends. I dyed it blonde in 2013, and then I put a red rinse on it last year…so now the color is just growing out.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Trash to Tresses!
Any advice to the natural newbies?
Do not overwhelm yourself. Do not look a millions of Youtube videos and please don’t buy and try all of the products on the market. All these YT gurus have different textures and majority of them can only speak of their experience and are not licensed. Its ok to get a little inspiration but learn what works for you, and when it does STICK TO IT. Also do not self-talk or sabotage your hair process. Its not going to grow long a luscious overnight! You are going to have a love and hate relationship with your hair. It will get on your nerves, it will make you want to cry but don’t give up on your process. Don’t do too much manipulation to your hair in the beginning such as heat, color/dye, etc…try to just stick to a simple regimen, deep condition and even do protective styling! Also don’t texture compare and fall in love with your own texture!
What is your favorite compliment you have ever been given on your hair?
You inspired me to wear my hair curly. I never wanted to wear curly hair until I seen how beautiful your curls are.
If you could tell your younger self NOW something about your natural hair THEN what would that be?
Underneath all of that relaxer is a beautiful texture you haven’t seen since you were 12. Love your texture don’t let the media brainwash you to think otherwise and that straight hair is the only form of beauty. You will be rewarded for loving your texture.
