Rockin Naturals You May Not Know But Should: Jenelle

Introduction

My name is Jenelle Springer. I am 29 year old parent of two amazing boys and we reside in Northern Virginia. I’m the Executive Assistant/Lead Recruiter for the Director of a Private Wealth Management Firm in Reston, Virginia. I have been natural for 22 months now and absolutely loving it.

What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?

My son was actually my inspiration. He is 4 years old and never had a haircut. His hair is ridiculously long, thick and healthy. Don’t get me wrong I loved my relaxers but my hair did not and it started to show. After going through a depressing stage in my life, I decided it was time to let go of all the “dead” things and that included my hair. I big chopped on January 10th, 2013. I tried to transition but the struggle of nurturing different hair textures was exhausting.

Fave go to hairstyle.

My favorite go-to hairstyle is twists outs. You get fluffy, wild curls with a simple two strand or flat twist, who wouldn’t want that?

If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?

Foxy Cleopatra lol so lame but she is fierce and beautiful and don’t you ever forget it *hair flips*

Have you ever tried hair shadowing? Deep Conditioning Color? Splat washables?

No but I am interested in learning more and headed to your website lol

If you hair is colored what do you use to do so?

My hair is quite stubborn, so it does not lift well which means color cannot be removed from the hair to lighten its shade or add color.

Bleach was used to achieve my color which is now copper (crown,) chocolate brown (sides,) and dark brown (middle/back nape.)

Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.

New found love!

Any advice to the natural newbies?

My advice to natural newbies is to do what works best for YOU and have patience. I know we all want long healthy hair but it doesn’t just happen overnight. You have to treat it like you treat your body; give it the proper nutrients, clean it, protect it, and most importantly LOVE IT. We all have different textures, embrace what you have and watch how amazing you can be with the hair you were born with.

What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair?

Edges on Fleek LOL what does that even mean? I think its “You can do anything with your hair.” Yes I can and you can too. Many people think natural hair styles are limited. You can do so many things to it as you would chemically treated hair. Your hair does not have to be straight to be beautiful.

If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?

The hair goddess, Mahogany Curls. She never hid her frustrations with her hair. It was a beautiful journey and I appreciate her honesty on her failures and successes. I was hard on myself for getting split ends, or drying out my hair from trying a new product thinking I big chopped for nothing. It is all about trial and error and that’s the beauty in it all, figuring out what works for you and showcasing the beauty of being a natural woman.

Finish this sentence:

I Rock My Natural because my hair is an expression of me; wild, colorful, natural and free…
