Heyyyy! My name is Sydney , I’m from Bklyn, NY and currently reside in PA (but I will always be a Bklyn girl). I am twenty *coughs* seven lol yrs old and I work in Sales for a Polycarbonate and PVC manufacturing company. My last relaxer was September 2012 and I did my BC April 2013 , so I completely returned natural 2 yrs ago.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
I made a vow on my 25th birthday (9/19/12′) not to get another relaxer. My beautician at the time suddenly quit and I was being bounced around from stylist to stylist. My hair wasn’t getting the proper care it needed and started breaking terribly, so I decided that was it. I continued using heat until 2/13′, at which point I started doing my research and concluded heat was almost just as bad as relaxing so I stopped that as well. I went to a salon and had my stylist cut off most of my relaxed ends, but I was so uncomfortable I had her install a weave . I wore the install until April 2013′ and when I removed it, I went in my bathroom and did my big chop. My natural hair journey officially began. It was the best decision ever! My hair is the healthiest its been in my life!
What are your current hair goals?
I honestly do not have any length goals. Of course I want my hair to grow lol but I am more concerned about maintaining the health of my hair than I am the length. I am sure length will come.
Top 3 products and prices.
Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter $15
Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream $6.50
Carols Daughter Monoi Repairing Hair Mask $32
Is there a product you have used that you would NEVER use again? Why?
I wouldn’t say I hate Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, but I dislike it for twist outs as it leaves a heavy white residue. I do however like it as a moisturizer for my hair.
Do you have a favorite go to hairstyle?
My go-to hairstyle is the twist-out. It took me so long to master it, but now that I can do it with my eyes closed it’s my fav!!
How do you protect you hair at night?
Do you have a name for your hair or If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
I call my hair Brown Sugar. 🙂
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Liberating, Inspiring, gratifying
Any advice to the natural newbies?
Hang in there, it gets easier. If I can do it, so can you! xoxo
What is your favorite compliment you have ever been given on your hair?
” OMG, it’s so beautiful I am going to call you Foxy Cleopatra ” lol
If you could tell your younger self NOW something about your natural hair THEN what would that be?
Your natural hair is beautiful!! I know they make you feel otherwise, but “they” shouldn’t validate you. You validate you and you are stunning with your kinky coily tresses.
Do you have a favorite YouTube Vlogger? I don’t actually have one. There are so many awesome youtubers doing there thing I can’t choose one lol
Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because I rock NATURALLY. And no one will ever make me feel otherwise again.
Keep Rockin Sydney!
