Rockin Naturals: Omonike

Introduction
My name is Omonike Williams, I am 26 years old and live in Queens, Ny. I am currently in nursing school to become a Nurse practitioner with a focus in Oncology. I also work at a group home for the developmentally disabled. I love it! Its super rewarding.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
I’ve been natural for four years, transitioned rather than BC’d, and became natural because I wanted to get back to my full hair potential that I realized I had as a teen. I should have listened to my mom when she told me “creamy crack” was not the way to go, but I wanted to conform to societies straight hair ideals, but I’m back!
What are your current hair goals?
What are your current hair goals?
My current goal is to get back to my length I used to have (down to my waist)
Sza is one of my biggest hair crushes, as well as you, (your colors are on point!) <3
My current top three faves are Pantene Pro V’s truly naturals cowash ($4.99 at target), Cantu’s argon oil deep conditioner ($5.49 at target), & Not your mother’s kinky moves curl defining shampoo ($4.74 at Walmart).
Is there a product you have used that you would NEVER use again? Why?
I’d have to say Miss Jessie’s curl custard, it wasn’t utterly horrid but it just didn’t work for me specifically. I know others that swear by it and I have other Miss Jessie’s products that I adore.
My favorite go to hairstyle is a two-strand flat twist out, I usually do six going forward with the top half of my head, & four going backwards. I fluff from the roots and viola! Awesome curls.
How do you protect you hair at night?
How do you protect you hair at night?
At night time my hair stays protected in the two-strand twist under a satin bonnet but on my lazy days I pineapple it with a silk scarf, shake it out in the morning and my hair is ready to go in the morning.
I like to refer to my hair as “Kiki”, absolutely no clue why, it just always stuck so I never changed it.it be?
If your hair is colored what do you use to do so?
never changed it. My hair is currently black with greenish tips. I colored my hair blonde two years ago and began experimenting with blues, greens, pinks, and purples using manic panic hair dye which I love because it is vegan. Had to go back to black for work & school purposes.
REWARDING, EMPOWERING, HUMBLING
My advice for natural newbies are “experiment, experiment, experiment, don’t get caught up in the hype of what people say works for them as it may not work for you, just because something is expensive doesn’t mean it will be better than the cheaper product, read product ingredients but don’t be a ingredient nazi, be true to you and accept your hair for what it is, everyone is beautiful, and all hair is “good hair”.
Once when my hair was blue and pink, a little boy told me my hair looked like yummy cotton candy, that was the best thing I’ve ever heard
If you could tell your younger self NOW something about your natural hair THEN what would that be?
