Rockin Naturals: Love Kyei

My name is Love Kyei, but I’m mostly known as  AbenaLove or Odo Abena. I am 31 years old. I live in Brisbane, Australia and I’m a Primary Classroom Music Teacher. I am also a Youtube Vlogger, and have been natural since the end of July 2013.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
My mom and of my best friends actually inspired me to go natural. My mom has been natural for about 5 years now, and when I saw how healthy and long her hair was growing, and how beautiful and thick her texture was, I was like ‘Yup! I want experience this too!’ Also, my bff has been natural for quite some time too, and we always had conversations about me going natural. She always had such simple and useful tips about maintaining natural hair, and the more she talked about it, the more I wanted to give it a try! So one day I decided to just go ahead and big chop after transitioning for about 7 months.
What are your current hair goals?
I get so much inspiration from all the beautiful naturals I see on instagram, facebook, youtube, etc! But because everyones hair is different, I don’t set any expectations. Instead I’m just letting my hair do its thing while enjoying each stage of the journey. I’m excited to see how long my hair will be in a few years though!
 Top 3 products and prices.
My top 3 products are Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter, Coconut oil and Eco Styler Gel. They are all very inexpensive but my hair loves them!
Is there a product you have used that you would NEVER use again? Why?
I’m  not a product junkie, and I basically stick to what I know. Since I went natural I’ve kept my regimen very simple and have stuck to the same products, and so far it’s been good.
Do you have a favorite go to hairstyle?
The afro puff is my go to. Its quick, simple and easy, but always looks cute!
How do you protect you hair at night?
If its not cornrowed because I’m wearing my wigs, then I will usually thread it at night.
Do you have a name for your hair or If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
I don’t have a name for my hair, and I’ve actually never thought about giving it a name. Will have to think of one now!
If your hair is colored what do you use to do so?
I’ve haven’t colored my hair since going natural, and don’t think I ever would.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Eye-opening, Freeing, Exciting
Any advice to the natural newbies?
Have patience! Your hair will take time to grow, so don’t get frustrated that the growth isn’t happening as quickly as you maybe expected! And really just enjoy all the different stages of growth!
What is your favorite compliment you have ever been given on your hair?
Well I get alot of “Oh I love your hair!” “I wish my hair could do that!” And I also get complimented on how thick and healthy it is, which at the end of the day is very important to me!
If you could tell your younger self NOW something about your natural hair THEN what would that be?
Your hair isn’t hard and unmanageable, its soft, feels amazing and is so versatile!
Do you have a favorite YouTube Vlogger?
I don’t have a favorite Youtube vlogger, but I do watch alot of them because I love seeing all the beautiful naturals and their amazing textures.
Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because it’s a part of who I am, and I love that part of me!
Keep Rockin Love!!
