Rockin Naturals: Kim

Introduction
Hey, My name is Kim and i am from Broooooklynn NY(best borough of course). I am a project manager in the financial industry. I have always been natural, for me it was just a matter of not frying my hair every 2 weeks trying to get a look that didn’t reflect who I am.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
My hair routine went like this once upon a time: Straight hair from Sept – April because it was just too cold to wash and go during the winter, and curly during the summer bc my hair would always revert in the water months. One day when i was doing my first wash and go of spring i noticed that one part of my hair was bone straight and would not curl! I was completely at a loss and started to panic because I knew that i could always count on my hair to curl back up. This was my awakening, i started to research ways to make my hair curly again. I invested in all new products and learned techniques to help bring my curls back. In the end I couldn’t wait for the damaged piece to grow out, and i cut it off. I learned a lot about my hair during this time, and put names to techniques that I had been using for years. Now I get a blow out about 1x a year, and I’m loving my hair!
What are your current hair goals?
My immediate hair goal is to have healthy hair. I would like to decrease the amount of split ends i have by at least 50%.. long term i would like my hair to be bra strap length when curly. That length of hair is a lot for me though because my hair is about mid back length stretched out, and it never really gets longer, just wider..
Top 3 products and prices.
My holy grail product is Miss Jessies Pillow Soft curls. I love this product bc it gives just the right amount of hold, but my hair is still super soft. $22
Is there a product you have used that you would NEVER use again? Why?
I have a very sensitive scalp that dries out very easily. So when I choose shampoos and conditioners I have to ensure that it is super hydrating and moisturizing. The one line that I have tried that completely dried my scalp out was the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Shampoo and Conditioner.
Do you have a favorite go to hairstyle?
My favorite go to style is a Wash & Go. It is a very easy way for me to manage my hair with out over styling.
How do you protect you hair at night?
At night i sleep with a pineapple on a satin pillow case.
Do you have a name for your hair or If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
I actually don’t have a nickname for my hair, but if I had to name if she would be called Stacy.
If your hair is colored what do you use to do so?
I color my hair myself using Dark and Lovely box dye.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Defining, Beautiful, Original
Any advice to the natural newbies?
Be patient, and pay attention to what works for your hair. Everything takes time and great hair will not happen over night.
What is your favorite compliment you have ever been given on your hair?
All of the compliments I get are so generous, so I don’t really have a favorite.
If you could tell your younger self NOW something about your natural hair THEN what would that be?
Love thy self.
Do you have a favorite YouTube Vlogger?
Currently my fave is MoKnowsHair
