Natural Rockers You May Not Know But Should: Sha’Donna

My name is Sha’Donna and I am a 25 year old entrepreneur currently living that ATL lifestyle! My business, Nancy’s Kitchen Products, LLC is a brand new product line that currently consists of 3 products for your hair care essentials! The line is called Nancy’s Kitchen Products in honor of my late Grandmother Nancy Johnson. Her kitchen was a place where the women of my family learned to cook, built on family values and of course, made sure our hair was on point! Nancy’s Kitchen is open to everyone. Our products are filled with love and care so make yourself at home!
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
Honestly, fear. It was early 2009 and I’d finally gotten my hair to a healthy (relaxed) state. I didn’t really need a relaxer and it was more out of habit or to go ahead and slap one one after the typical 8 weeks had passed. I can still remember watching my hair clump out in the kitchen sink of my undergraduate apartment on the campus of Morgan State University. I was horrified and upset. No, I didn’t come up with noticeable bald patches but my hair was noticeably damaged and thinning. After another 8 weeks had passed I was absolutely terrified. My hair was becoming so thin and brittle. It was then that my old roommate suggested the style of bantu knots. She recommended I hop on YouTube to find a tutorial and that was all she wrote! I fell into the beautiful black hole that is the YouTube natural hair community and I never looked back! After 9 months of transitioning I did my big chop at home. Here I am 5 years later and on my second big chop journey!
Top three products and prices.
OF COURSE the one and only Nancy’s Kitchen Products! And I’m not just saying that. My recent big chop was due to the overwhelmingly healthy new growth that my Nancy’s Kitchen Products regimen produces. I love my line so much that I had to find out what a head full of Nancy’s Kitchen Products nourished hair would look like! Please visit for prices and details!
Fave go to hairstyle.
Prior to my recent big chop it was my beloved twist n curl using perm rods or flexi rods. Currently, though, it’s my beautiful TWA!
If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
Tammy! She is beautiful, classy and sassy!
If you hair is colored what do you use to do so?
My hair was colored at a salon in Atlanta, GA and sadly I have no idea what the color is. I do, however, know that my hair had to be lifted with bleach.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Mine all mine. It saddens me to see so many women compare journeys and its the quickest way to disappointment and what I call “hair envy”. Your hair was made custom for you. It is FOR you. Don’t doubt it.
Any advice to the natural newbies?
Don’t compare your journey, curl pattern or rate of growth to anyone else’s.
All of the compliments I hear that are about me but not to me. A woman turning to her friend to say “I love her hair!”
If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?
Jasmine of The Big Hair Bettyy! Not only is Jasmine an absolutely sweetheart with big hair and big dreams but she’s also my sorority sister!
Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because
it’s a one of a kind, effortless kind of beautiful.
