Natural Rockers You May Not Know But Should: Pia
Tell me a little about yourself.
My name is Pia. I’m 30 years old from Fayetteville, North Carolina. I work for the local newspaper in my city. I’ve been natural since July 20, 2011.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
I kept seeing a lot of females in my area rocking cute afros and then an old coworker of mine decided she was going to go natural (she transitioned.) I’ve always had relaxers in my hair since about age 7 , so I couldn’t really recall what my hair looked like without one, so I decided to try it out. Unlike my coworker, I decided to just do a big chop and get it all over with. A few friends and family members were skeptical and didn’t think I would go through with it, but I did!
Top three products and prices.
I haven’t really experimented with too many products. I like to have a good conditioner, leave in conditioner, and moisturizer. I don’t necessarily have any favorites because I pretty much use what I can afford lol. I use a few different items from African Pride ( olive miracle moisturizer lotion and olive miracle leave-in conditioner which I purchase at Walmart) and I like Mane n Tail deep moisturizing conditioner from Sally’s. Not sure of the prices on those items.
Fave go to hairstyle.
My go to hair style (when I’m not rocking a protective style) would be the “puff” because it’s simple yet still cute and I can accessorize with scarfs, headbands, flowers, or bows!
Have you tried hair shadowing?
If yes, what do you think?
If no, would you?
No I have not yet experimented with hair shadowing, but I did purchase a splat washables kit in “totally red” a few months back, just haven’t used it yet! Halloween is coming up, so that could be a good time to experiment with it.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Best decision ever! lol OR life changing experience 🙂
Any advice to the natural newbies?
To the newbies, my advice would be to try and be patient, experiment with a lot of cute hair accessories when you are in the TWA stage, and don’t be afraid to play around in your hair. I went from someone with a relaxer who wore a ponytail every day and didn’t even try to experiment with my hair, to someone who can’t wait to try the next style and see where my hair takes me!!!
Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because
I rock my natural because I’m unique and it helps me to express that without words!
