Hello curlfriends! My name is Nicole and I’m from Newport News, Virginia. I’m a mom, wife, and combat veteran…having served 12 years in the United States Army. I’m currently a medical records analyst and in school pursuing my bachelors for Health Information Systems. I have been natural my whole life but up until about 2 years ago, I never knew how to manage my natural hair so I’ve been flat ironing it since I was a kid.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
Since I was in the Army for so long, I usually just kept my hair in a bun but once I got out, I had more time to put into taking care of my hair. Frenchy Fatim and Natural Neiicey were the first 2 you tubers that taught me how to manage and embrace my natural hair.
Top three products and prices.
This is probably the hardest question to answer because I am a total product junkie so let’s see if I can sum this up into 3 lol.
Tresemme Naturals conditioner (awesome for detangling) $ 4.99
Deva Curl One Condition (gives my curls that pop) $ 35.00 for a 32 oz bottle
Spectrum organic virgin coconut oil (great natural moisturizer). $6.50
Fave go to hairstyle.
My favorite go to style changes depending on how I’m feeling. When I want those defined curls and a more edgier look, then I love the wash and go. When I want length then I go for the twist out. It really all just depends on my mood.
If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
If my hair had a name it would be “Diva” and not in a good way lol. It’s so demanding! It doesn’t like being neglected. It likes what it likes and when I try and change it up, it acts a fool.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
If I had to sum up my hair journey using only three words it would be a “Box of Chocolate” haha… With natural hair, you never know what you’re gonna get. You can do a wash and go today and it be amazing but the very next time you try it, it turns out completely different, even if you use the exact same method and products. Even though it’s unpredictable, it’s still a pretty awesome journey.
Any advice to the natural newbies?
My advice to the natural newbies would be to embrace your own hair. I’ve admired so many women’s curls, striving to get my curls like theirs, only to find out that it’s not even their hair. Love your natural hair for everything it is. Don’t compare your hair or hair journey to any one else’s because you just never know what you’re really comparing yourself to.
What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair?
My favorite compliment is when other naturals say my hair is beautiful. For most of my life, I’ve looked at my curly hair as a curse. Natural hair hasn’t always been embraced as much as it is now so it really feels good that my hair is looked at as beautiful in its natural state, without having to flat ironing the life out of it lol.
If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?
f I had to chose just one natural hair vlogger it would be Natural Neiicy. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous and healthy. She gives amazing tutorials on how to style and maintain your hair. She’s definitely a natural hair pro!

I Rock My Natural because
I love the versatility of it. You can wear it curly or straight. If you want it short, you can rock your shrinkage or you can stretch it out if you want to wear it long. You can rock defined curls or loose wavy curls. You can completely change your without adding to or cutting your hair. It’s so much fun to be able to change up your look.
