Natural Rockers You May Not Know But Should: Lauren

My name is Lauren Hanna. I’m 22 years old and I’m from Austin, TX along with my mom, dad and my six sisters. (Yes, I said SIX sisters! I have no brothers). I am currently a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX studying Public Relations. When I’m not in class or studying, I’m usually practicing yoga or outside hiking and exploring Austin. I have been natural since 2011, so that makes about 3 years now.

What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?

My oldest sister was my biggest inspiration to go natural. She went natural a few years before i did, and i remember thinking i could never rock that style with my hair. After seeing how confident and beautiful my sister carried herself after a few short years of wearing her hair natural, I decided to transition for about a year and then proceeded to do the big chop. Also, as i was growing older, i was beginning to realize that relaxing and straightening my hair was not only time-consuming, but it was awful for my hair!

Fave go to hairstyle.

Wash-and-go for sure! It’s the perfect maintenance level for my busy day-to-day student lifestyle.

If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?

The name i would give my hair would be Blythe. The name itself means to be happy, cheerful and care free. Those are definitely some words i would use to describe my hair.

If you hair is colored what do you use to do so?

I once did blonde highlights throughout my hair when i first went natural. I don’t remember what product my stylist used to lift the dark brown from my hair to make it blonde. I know it wasn’t bleach, but i do know whatever she used, it took about three separate applications to get my hair the shade i wanted. After i got the blonde highlights put in, i was able to use any shade of Clairol Natural Instincts Temporary Hair Color throughout my hair to give it “pops” of color. Red was my favorite color i tried on my hair before.

Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.

Frustrating, Liberating and Beautiful.

Any advice to the natural newbies?

Grow with the fro! Not just literally, but i also mean internally within yourself. When i look back at the beginning of my journey, it was hard for me to not want to relax or straighten my hair. Be patient on your journey and slowly learn to accept your curly roots because they will be a part of you forever!

What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair?

“Your hair is giving me life!”

If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?

Bianca Alexa without a doubt! I watch her youtube channel religiously! Haha. Not only is Bianca gorgeous, but she has great insight on how to take care of your natural hair and she has awesome styling tips for those who have a little bit more length to play with.

Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because: it is bold and beautiful!
