Natural Rockers You May Not Know But Should: LaLa

My name is LaMeika but most people call me LaLa, usually easier for people to remember. I’m 28 and live in Boston. I actually didnt intentionally decide to go natural. It was really kind of by accident, I had cut my hair in 2010 but wore tracks for fullness; so at this point I was still relaxed. Then as my hair grew out of my cut, I started wearing full weaves as opposed to just tracks. Then I thought to myself is there really any point in getting my hair relaxed since I never really wore my own hair out. So at that point I only relaxed my leave out and not my entire head. Then I saw how fast my hair was growing and started researching on how to take care of my natural hair. I saw a lot of info on YouTube mostly and was intrigued by all the products that were available because there wasn’t much catered to our natural hair some years ago. It made me want to embrace my hair, though I knew it would take a while because I’ve never been one to really love my hair. I’m still learning to love it.
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
Well my last relaxer was 9/3/11, I transitioned for a year and cut off my remaining relaxed ends. No one in particular inspired me since it was kind of an accident but when I recognized how fast my hair was growing and stronger. That was definitely a motivation for me to stop relaxing.

Fave go to hairstyle.
On my lazy days I prefer a puff or just my afro.
If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
It would be Sasha because she’s fierce and always knows how to bring out the diva in me haha
Have you ever tried hair shadowing? Deep Conditioning Color? Splat washables?
I’ve tried using makeup like lipstick, eyeshadow and temporary spray color. I’m looking to try other temporary methods.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Frustrating, determined and confidence.
Any advice to the natural newbies?
When embracing your hair, it may take a very long time and patience to find your path. Everyone’s hair is different so never compare your hair to anyone else’s. You may not fall in love with your hair right away and find yourself questioning if this natural journey is really for you. But if you take the time to get to know your hair inside & out it will be worth it in the long run. “Confidence is the only key. I can’t think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself.”

What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair?
“You and your hair is beautiful, you go girl!”
If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?
Wow this is very very hard haha but I guess it would be My Natural Sistas because they are very very informative. They give you a variety ways of doing your hair and I feel like their hair is somewhat close to my type of hair. I find it easier to try new styles/follow ppl that best matches close to my hair type.
Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because my hair is an amazing representation of who I am.
