Natural Rockers You May Not Know But Should: Ivette

My name is Ivette I live in West New York, NYC and a registered dental hygienist. I’ve been natural for over 15 years.

What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?

I wouldn’t necessary say something inspired me to be natural because I have always love my curly hair, however when I first moved to this country and I became of legal age I grew the courage to let it be free. I did the bc twice, first because I used to relax my hair and the second time around due to severe heat damage.

Top three products and prices.

The products I use more often are Miss Jessies Pillow Soft Curls which is about 20$ also DevaCurl One condition which is about 25$ and lastly Moroccan oil Leave in conditioner which is about 25$ too.

Fave go to hairstyle.

My favorites to go hairstyles are a big bun, my crazy wild curly afro or a nice side braid.

If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?

If I have to give my hair a name …it’d be sunshine J lol.

If you hair is colored what do you use to do so?

I do color my hair, I do it myself, I use Olia golden blonde by garnier 9.3 I used to do their previous version of this product but before olia came along.  I’d only recommend it for people with a light hair color base or other wise it won’t take.

Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.

Exciting, frustrating and fabulous.

Any advice to the natural newbies?
My advice to the natural newbies is to keep experimenting and trying new things, don’t give up… what works for others might not work for you but you’d find your own unique routine.

What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair?

My biggest compliment is when someone had see me with straight hair and immediately asks me, where are those wonderful curls? You look way more beautiful with your hair curly.

If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?

This question was the hardest one because I randomly used to watch YouTube videos about hair, and I don’t do it anymore, the last couple people I watched was you  a few other ladies which I can’t remember their names and Taren Guy and this was a long time ago…sorry 🙁

Finish This Sentence:

I Rock My Natural Because: it is a direct extension of who I am, I love it and accept it. It  also keeps me close to my African roots, my ancestors.  It makes me feel beautiful unique and sexy. Being a curly headed woman is not only exotic but also breath taken, the way the curly hair bounces, it’s volume and body is simply amazing.

Social Media Links

My most common media links are Instagram which is curlylovekiss and Facebook which is Curly Piña but I don’t use it as much.  It is way easier to contact me through Instagram.
