Natural Rockers You May Not Know But Should: Khaliyah
My name is Khaliyah, but most of my friends call me Iman. I am 19 years old attending Penn State University, majoring in Education and Public Policy with a minor in Sociology. I am originally from Harrisburg, PA but spent time in a number of other places. I have been natural almost 5 years with two big chops in between.
Since I was little I always dreaded getting relaxers and I always admired big hair. In middle school I quickly realized that I was known as the ‘black girl with good hair’ because my hair was relaxed, healthy, and long. I hated being known as that. I stopped getting relaxers and transitioned for 8 months. I got in the car one day with my mom and said, “I want to get my hair cut.” So I went to a woman where I’m from and she cut my hair and I haven’t looked back 🙂

I love wearing my hair in a puff or an obnoxious afro!
If you hair is colored what do you use to do so?
I use Manic Panic and Ion Color Brilliance… I mix them together so that the color lasts longer.
Turn Up Function! (lol)
Any advice to the natural newbies?
TAKE THE NEGATIVITY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. People like to hold people down if they don’t approve. But you’re beautiful darlings and you deserve to grace the world with your gravity defying hair. Curly girls rule the world!
What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair?
I had a girl come up to me and say that she sees me on campus and wanted to tell me that she liked my hair. It was just nice because she actually approached me to give me a compliment with her receiving nothing in return. It was refreshing and I really appreciated it.
If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?
I’m not sure if she counts but Yagaazi Emezi is the coolest.
