My Fave Rockers on IG: @Chigirlmakeup
I follow this beautiful natural for no other reason than she has gorgeous hair and any and all rod or roller sets she may do always come out fabulous. Her hair is healthy and her blow outs are fierce! Therefore making her one of my very fave Naturalistas on Instagram.
I’m Shaun S. And I’m 35 (shhhhssss) if you guys tell anyone I might just have to kill you (LOL). I work for a major QSR company in the legal / finance / real estate field. I cover the Midwest market and I’m always traveling for them. I’m originally from Southern California (Brea) but have been in Chicago for the last 13 years…I hate the winters and would love to get back to Cali!!
What or Who inspired you to go natural? Did you bc or transition?
I kind of went natural by accident. In 2011…I was introduced to weaves (I know…I’m a late bloomer…don’t judge me LOL). I wore weaves back to back for the next 3 years. I would keep the installs in for 8-12 weeks, remove them, trim my ends, do a protein treatment (my favorite is aphogee) and wait 2 weeks before i would install again. I guess you could say I transitioned. I didn’t want to do a BC (ummmm that Amber Rose look is not for everyone…including me…uh uh)
Top three products and prices.
Cocunut oil – $6-10
Devacurl gel – $22
Eluscence shampoo and conditioner – per liter bottle (I know I cheated I gave you 4)
Fave go to hairstyle
I’ve learned by trial and error. I’m a lazy natural so any style for me must last a minimum of 8-10 days. I use to love bone straight hair. However being a natural…heat is a no no. I began to embrace my curls and the big hair look. Now…I LOVE my curls. I enjoy rocking perm rods and flexirod sets. I’m not a wash and go kinda girl so I stay with what I know. I typically wash or cowash, do a steam treatment (with my conditioner), use a DC and seal with coconut oil and style.
If you had to give your hair a name what would it be?
Have you ever tried hair shadowing? Deep Conditioning Color? Splat washables?
Tried color tattoos when I seen you do it…I must say…yours turned out wayyyy better than mine lol.
Sum up your natural hair journey in three words.
Any advice to the natural newbies?
First and foremost…embrace your texture and length. Next…find your hair twin (Youtube, IG, etc). protective styles (weaves) helped me retain length. I didn’t use any supplements or anything like that. I think the most important step is to listen to your hair. Have a good balance of protein, moisture, trim regularly, and have a good diet and most of all…have a ton of patience!
What was favorite compliment someone has ever given you on your hair!
People always think I wear weave…I take that as a compliment!!
If you could only watch one natural hair vlogger on youtube who would it be? why?
Natural85 because I think we have similar hair textures and she gives a ton of advice.
Finish this sentence:
I Rock My Natural because I am bold, confident, and most of all….strong natural sista!
