Rock on Nina!!

Introduction
My name is Nina Marcalle. I am 48 years young.  I was raised in NYC but currently live 15 minutes away in Jersey City, NJ.  I run my own Pet sitting Business. I am also a Certified Animal Behavioral Specialist and provide Behavioral training for Dogs. I’m also a part-time  Personal Chef on the weekends.

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural since 2000. I started off with natural locs in 2000 grew them out and then cut them into short locs in 2012. At the end of 2013, I decided I had enough of the locs because my hair seemed to be thinning out in the front . I attributed that to the twisting of new hair growth over so many years.  I was also interested in seeing what my natural hair/curl pattern would look like. There was a huge movement going on locally and I was intrigued.  My Natural Hair Girlfriends suggested that I comb them out. I went on youtube, saw some videos and decided to comb them out rather than do a big chop. It took an agonizing 7 days to remove every last one and I’ve never looked back.

What is your current hair color? What products do you use to color your hair?
I call this “Accidental Dimensions of Fuschia with a hint of Lavendar.”  For the base of my hair, I use Dark and Lovely Lt Golden Blonde 384. For the Fuschia on top of it, I used a mixture of Kiss semi-permanent Truly Red K48, Kiss semi-permanent  Cherry Cola K51, Adore semi-permanent Violet Gem 114 and Adore semi-permanent Pink Rose 82. I mixed those together and voila this is what I have.

Do you have any hair coloring tips? How often do you change your hair color?
My only tip is to make sure to do a protein treatment to make your curls pop right after dying it as the color slightly alters your curl pattern making it loose. I had to learn that the hard way.  I always use Palmers Coconut Oil Treatment deep conditioning protein pak and I leave that on no more than 15 minutes right after rinsing out the dye. I change my hair color based on my mood actually so it’s hard to say but I probably changed the colors 4 or 5 times from Spring to Fall.

How do you protect your hair at night?
I sleep on a Satin pillow case and Pineapple my hair.

What are your top 3 products that you use in your hair?
My top 3 Products for my wash and goes or any hairstyle are:
1-Shea Moisture, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-in Conditioner
2-Curls Crème Brule Whipped Curl Cream &
3-Aunt Jackie’s Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel.
I use all 3 after I wash my hair and I use smaller than dime size amount of each because with my hair, less is more.  It took me some time to figure out that this combo worked best.

Do you have a name for your hair, if so what is it?
I call my hair her or she. I never thought anyone would ask me that. 😀

Do you have any advice on keeping colored hair healthy?
I’d say pre-poo/deep condition every week before washing your hair.  My hair loves it.

What is your favorite go to hair style?
Wash and gos are my favorite.

Finish this sentence: I Rock My Natural because
it’s a Work of Art, a Ray of Colorful Sunshine, that makes me and so many People Happy.
