How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 6 years and 10 months.
What is your current hair color? What products do you use to color your hair?
Currently my hair is purple. #GRAPEHEAD To achieve my color I bleached my hair using the L’Oreal Quick Blue Bleach and Sparks hair color.
Do you have any hair coloring tips? How often do you change your hair color?
I would advise anyone attempting to color their own hair to 1. do A LOT of research before taking on such a task and 2. READ AND FOLLOW the instructions on the products you choose to use. I also HIGHLY suggest frequent protein and deep moisturizing treatments. You want to make sure you are restoring the bonds that are broken during the coloring process and making sure that your strands stay hydrated and moisturized. I’ve found this to be essential for healthy colored-treated hair.
Since I’ve achieved the shade of purple that I was going for I haven’t changed my hair color in over a year. Prior to my hair being purple it was magenta and I kept that color for about a year.
How do you protect your hair at night?
I protect my hair by wearing a satin bonnet and sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Satin sleep gear is an integral part of helping hair (and skin for that matter) retain its moisture.
What are your top 3 products that you use in your hair?
Right now, my top 3 must haves are:
- Aphogee 2-Step Protein Treatment
- Honey Baby Naturals Knot My Honey Leave-In Conditioner
- SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque
These products help keep my hair from turning into dust and blowing away in the wind!
Do you have a name for your hair, if so what is it?
People ALWAYS tell me my hair looks like a Jheri Curl when it’s wet so I call her “Jheri”.
Do you have any advice on keeping colored hair healthy?
Pay attention to your hair. If you feel your hair is starting to become awkward and unruly, chances are something needs to be changed or adjusted, whether that be styling techniques or products or maybe even diet. Natural hair is dynamic and you may have to change up your regimen every now and again to keep things on the up and up.
Also, MOISTURIZE at all costs! A key to healthy hair, especially when it is color treated is to make sure your hair stays hydrated. Having hair that looks like dried up tumble weed for the sake of color is NOT cute! LOL
What is your favorite go to hair style?
My favorite go to style changes from time to time. Right now, my favorite is a high bun. Just because it is quick, easy, and it can make just about any outfit look simply chic!
