ARTISTS WHO ROCK: JUSTICE DWIGHT
Hey my name is Justice Dwight and I am originally from Plainfield, New Jersey, but I live in Richmond, Virginia. I’m 20 years old and art is my ultimate passion.
Type of Art you are known for
I guess you could say I’m most known for bringing black culture to pop art.
What/Who Inspires you?
Generally I am inspired by everything. As far as current artists, I don’t really draw inspiration from them. A good amount of my inspiration comes from the artists that were here before me. My parents inspire me the most because whenever things are tough, they hold it together and that makes me want to work harder.
How long have you been an artist?
I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. My dad was a painter and I would paint with him and I was probably in every art class offered at public school. I didn’t start taking my art seriously until 2014. I left Virginia Union University because it made me unhappy and taking on art full-time was the light at the end of the tunnel.
Do you have a fave artist? If so who?
My dad will always be my favorite artist because in my mind, no one else’s work really compares to his.
Has any of your art been published? If so where?
Thanks to the internet, my art travels around all the time. All publications that I’ve had have been a blessing for promoting my work. One of the most recent blogs that has published my work was Afropunk.
If you could sum up your art in three words what would they be?
Brave, Colorful, and Iconic.
ROCK ON JUSTICE!!
